A MUSICAL CELEBRATION OF CREATION Missa Gaia/Earth Day Mass Concert

Sunday evening, April 21, 7pm Westdale United Church 99 North Oval, Hamilton

Performed by Karen Schuessler Singers, with MIssa Gaia Jazz Ensemble, from London, Ontario.

Westdale United is excited to have the opportunity to host a performance of Paul Winter’s ‘Missa Gaia’, written in 1981, dedicated to St. Francis and first performed at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, New York City.

This is a musical work that includes chant, gospel, jazz and world music from Brazil and Africa. Alongside voice and instrument, we are greeted by the sounds of the Alaskan tundra wolf, the humpback whale and the harp seal. The music celebrates creation as sacred space, emphasizing our responsibility to care for it and for all that is in it.

Go to the Westdale website www.westdaleunited.ca to see the poster and listen to three clips from this work (by performers other than the Schuessler singers).

Tickets are available by calling 905-528-4215 (leave a message if no-one answers) or by email westdaleunitedchurch@bellnet.ca Cost is $20 for adults; $15 for students; children under ten no charge.
