McMaster Planetarium – The Divine Sky

For centuries across cultures, the night sky has been a source of “heavenly inspiration”. This presentation will explore the ties between the religions of the world and the physical night sky. Phenomena in astronomy, including meteors, orbiting objects, and eclipses have sparked the curiosity and augmented the understanding of people in all religions all over the world, including both the ancient beliefs of Mayan and Egyptian societies and popular religions still practised today. While sharing some stories and theories from different religious traditions, we will explore the sky that inspired them.
