Community open houses – L.R. Wilson Hall project update

Members of the community are invited to an open house to receive project updates about  L.R. Wilson Hall – the University’s new home for the liberal arts opening in 2015.

At the open house, you will hear about how the building has been designed to provide students, faculty and staff with state-of-the-art teaching, learning and research space. The project architects will provide details about the building’s sustainability features and design principles that respect and complement the site of the building and its neighbours. Renderings of the building and information about the construction timelines, traffic management and noise control measures will also be shared. You will have an opportunity to ask questions.

Two identical open houses are scheduled:

Monday, May 27 2013

2:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.

Or

7:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.

Teaching Gardens, 2013 Season Work Party Dates

The Plant Lover’s Garden is looking 100 per cent better already, but there is still much work to be done, including repairing the surrounding cedar fencing. We need your help to restore and maintain this wonderful community asset.  We will be working in the gardens Saturday mornings from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon on the following dates: May 4, 11, 18, 25, June 1, 8, 15, 22, and 29.

Please consider coming out and lending a hand. If your interests lie more in carpentry, we could use your help with the fence. If you can’t come out on Saturday mornings but would like to help out at other times, please contact Dan Riegler at driegler@bell.net.

All ages are welcome, and no gardening experience is necessary. For more info contact Mary Louise Pigott at friendsofchurchillpark@gmail.com, check out our Facebook page athttps://www.facebook.com/pages/Teaching-Gardens-at-Churchill-Park-Westdale/154618977937148 , or follow us on twitter at @TeachingGarden.

The AWWCA’s Annual Neighbourhood Spring Cleanup

The Ainslie Wood/Westdale Community Association of Resident Homeowners is having its annual spring cleanup of our residential streets, after the students have moved out.  Please join us with your family and friends.

I will soon be announcing meeting locations to distribute the city’s specially marked bags and work gloves. A pen and piece of paper are also useful to bring with you to note any addresses that need a property-standards wakeup call. I will notify the city of these properties after the cleanup.

High school students who help out will be given a two-hour volunteer credit.

I hope I can count on you to come out and help tidy up the winter’s debris. Please let me know if you can volunteer, as I need to order supplies from the city. SPREAD THE WORD!!

Please reply to shelli.eisenberg@sympatico.ca

Thank you.
