A new community food project in West Hamilton

A new community project I’m starting this year is called the West Hamilton Produce Cooperative and it’s a way for backyard veggie gardeners to share their surplus garden produce with other local gardeners and receive some of the tasty treats from other people’s gardens. This model has been used with huge success in the southern U.S. The woman who started the original co-op there two years ago now has over 200 members (you can check out their group at www.hillsideproducecooperative.org ).

Our Hamilton group already has about twenty enthusiastic members (including some from the Victoria and Churchill community gardens), and of course we’d love to have more! See the attached flyer, plus there is more info at http://westhamiltonproducecooperative.blogspot.com.

Our first exchange will be this Saturday, June 25, and we welcome new members to join us at any point throughout the growing season. Email inquiries can be directed to westhamiltonproducecooperative@gmail.com.

Ainslie Wood Westdale: B-Line Corridor Land Use Study Design Workshop Public Presentation – Dundurn Street and King Street West Study Area

YOU’RE INVITED!

B-Line Corridor Land Use Study Design Workshop Public Presentation –

Dundurn Street and King Street West Study Area

What should new development along the B-line corridor look like? How should it relate to existing neigbourhoods?oHow

The City of Hamilton is undertaking a land use planning process along the B-Line Corridor from McMaster to Eastgate Square in conjunction with planning, engineering and design studies for a Light Rail Transit (LRT) system.

Citizens and local architects will be working together over the next few weeks to create visions of possible future development along the B-Line corridor. They will be developing six conceptual designs for buildings and public areas at six select locations along the corridor, two in Ward 1.

You are invited to view the designs, learn about how they relate to the surrounding neighbourhood and to provide comments.

The results of this process, including your comments, will inform new polices on uses, building heights, densities and urban design elements.

MORE:

The conceptual designs will also be available on the project website –www.hamilton.ca/nodesandcorridors – for your review and comment until July 22, 2011.

If you have any accessibility requirements in order to participate in these events, please contact the employee outlined in the Contact section below. Advance requests are highly encouraged to enable us to meet your needs adequately.
