We wanted to let you know that the former Churchill Lawn Bowling Clubhouse is now available to rent for your event:
It was a sad day when the historic Churchill Lawn Bowling Club closed in 2008. Since then a number of positive discussions have taken place about how to make the best use of this wonderful community asset.
The future of the clubhouse has been a crucial component of the Churchill Park Master Plan process and stands to be enhanced by the addition of a deck or terrace to better connect the building with the rest of the park.
The washroom and change room facilities were open to skaters this past winter, and the clubhouse and rink played host to a wonderful Winterfest in February. More recently, the first of what will hopefully be many community potlucks was held and was a resounding success. A community clean-up/work party is being planned for the fall.
The public availability of this wonderful mid-century Modernist building designed by City Hall architect Stan Roscoe, will allow for more creative uses, from community events such as the potluck and Winterfest to private functions such as meetings and birthday parties. It will breathe new life into this building and park.
Rental Arrangements
1) Rental applications and other pertinent material to rent the clubhouse can be picked up at Dalewood Recreation Centre and can be submitted to the receptionist where it will be passed on to the appropriate staff for review. Staff at Dalewood understand the process and can answer questions.
2) Once the application has been reviewed by the appropriate staff member, you will be notified whether the clubhouse is available and if so, the permit process will begin for payment and signatures.
3) Upon confirmation of the permit and signatures etc., you will be required to pick up the keys and will need to sign a key log sheet along with a checklist that speaks to the rules and responsibilities.
The cost to rent is $32.79 per hour. A rental information checklist is attached for your information.
Note that the checklist indicates that the facility rental does NOT include dishes, utensils, pots, pans, coffee urns, linens, set up or cleanup.
Renters are more than welcome to use whatever utensils and dinnerware there are in the cupboards, but the kitchen cannot be considered “fully-equipped”. Renters may inspect the premise before booking to see what they should bring.
